My mum was born to Kathleen and Kenneth Davis. Kenneth was in the army and by the time of the second world war he was posted to several different countries including Hong Kong and India. My mum didn't see him most of her early childhood as a result. She was evacuated with Kathleen in the war to Fowey in Cornwall though I don't know much about this time. What I do know is her recounting a banana brought back my Kenneth on one very rare visit home. It was completely black by the time she saw it and thought for years bananas grew black not yellow. I know Kathleen helped look after at least one US serviceman with meals etc and was part of the women's war effort in the UK. I also remember her describing her woolen bathing suit that stretched in the sea and fell off.
